Your safety online

If someone might be watching your screen or checking your phone, this page is for you.

The Quick exit button

Every page on this site has a Quick exit button in the bottom corner. Click it, or press the Escape key twice quickly, and this site is replaced with an ordinary website in the same tab, and another ordinary site opens in a new tab. The back button will not bring you back here.

What it does not do

No button on any website can erase where you have been. The Quick exit button changes what is on your screen. It does not remove this site from your browser history, from your phone’s activity, from a shared router’s records, or from any monitoring app that may be installed on your device. If you think your phone or computer is being monitored, the safest option is to use a different device: a computer at a public library, a trusted friend’s phone, or a work computer if that is safe for you.

Clearing your history

If you believe your device is not monitored but want to remove this visit from the history:

Chrome: menu (three dots), then History, then Clear browsing data. Choose “Last hour.”

Safari on iPhone: Settings, then Safari, then Clear History and Website Data. This clears everything, which may itself be noticeable.

Safari on Mac: History, then Clear History.

Edge: menu (three dots), then History, then Clear browsing data.

Firefox: menu, then History, then Clear recent history.

Private or incognito windows do not save history for that window. They do not hide your activity from monitoring apps or from whoever controls your internet connection.
