You don’t need to hand your whole separation to a lawyer to get real legal help. This work is done by Koch Solutions Family Law, which works in association with Kirker Law, on a limited scope basis: you hire us for the specific pieces you need, we do those well, and you handle the rest with our support. Everything happens by video, phone and email, so it works the same whether you’re in Edmonton, Calgary, Grande Prairie or a farm two hours from anywhere.

What limited scope looks like

  • A separation agreement drafted, or one you’ve been handed reviewed before you sign

  • A cohabitation or marriage agreement

  • Your financial disclosure package assembled properly

  • A property division analysis so you know what a fair split actually is

  • Coaching before a hearing or trial you’re running yourself

  • Letters to the other side, or to the lawyer on the other side

  • A case planning session to work out your next three moves

Each piece is set out in a written retainer that says exactly what we are doing and what we are not. You always know the scope before we start.

Who this is for

People who want to stay in control of their own matter and their own budget. People who can’t afford, or don’t need, a lawyer on the file for two years. People who have already tried to sort things out themselves and hit a wall on one specific problem. Many of our clients are leaving difficult or abusive relationships and need someone who will tell them plainly what the law can and can’t do.

How it works

Step one: book a 30 minute virtual consultation, $150.

Step two: we map out what you need and what you can do yourself.

Step three: you sign a limited scope retainer for the pieces you want us to handle.

Step four: we do the work, by video and email, on your schedule.

Fees

Billed hourly against a deposit held in trust. Most limited scope files run 10 to 20 hours over three to six months. You see every hour on your invoice.
